As with last year's edition, the RSSU Cup, Moscow Open 2015 will include two unusual tournaments. The first of which is a chess biathlon (chess + shogi), the second pure shogi.
The biathlon will be held Jan 31 to Feb 1 and will mark the third inclusion of the event. Last year saw twelve participants, including representatives from Ukraine and Germany. The winner was Boris Mirnik (Germany).
The second tournament – the Japanese version of chess, shogi – is already a familiar sight in Moscow owing to its yearly inclusion in the Moscow Open since 2004. This competition is planned for Feb 7-8.
It is expected that this edition will see participation from students with recent experience playing shogi against their Japanese colleagues on their own turf.
Planned for the intervening period of Feb 2-6 are shogi seminars and training activities, for completion of which the respective certificates and testimonies will be awarded.
